Comment:
During the fifth MRDD Biannual Conference in Austin, Texas in October, 1996
a special session on definitional issues in mental retardation was held. The
session was entitled "Mental Retardation As An Educational Construct:
An Exploration." The presenters included Steve Greenspan, Steve Maurer,
Edward Polloway, Dave Smith and Harvey Switzky. The session was moderated
by Tom Smith and summarized by Jim Patton. After the session the MRDD Board
of Directors passed a motion that the presentations be published in ETMRDD.
The first five articles in this issue are edited versions of the presentations.
